This is going to expose me for the disorganized person that I am when it comes to my home…running my own business, taking care of two children and a husband, means that I have very little time to keep my house in working order. You know that feeling of bringing the groceries in and putting them away as fast as possible because the kids need dinner, or they need help with their homework, or the dog needs to go out, or the phone rings, or there is an e-mail/text/message from a client that needs to be returned…yes, these are all excuses as to why my kitchen began to look like an episode of Hoarders, but it’s my story and I’m sticking to it (and I bet I’m not alone).
Enter Allison from RECLAIM ( http://reclaimnc.com )…Allison is a professional organizer and the founder of RECLAIM, LLC. She is not Pinterest…she is sooooooo much more because she comes into your home and everything is personalized for YOU! She literally looks at your space and creates a personalized solution, along with decluttering your life.
This is where the episode of Hoarders comes in…I had NO IDEA that I had a collection of about 15 flowers vases taking up two cabinets in my kitchen…who needs that many vases??? I also found a jar of boullion that had expired in 1996!!!!! Dear Lord, that thing has moved with me since I graduated high school!!!! Allison was not afraid to tell me what needed to be thrown away/donated, such as rusty baking sheets, old Tupperware, etc….she was kind about it and helped me decide what was useful versus what I was “just hanging onto in case I may need it one day”…hence the Hoarders…haha!
So, here are pictures from our time together (ps, don’t judge me):
On the left is my pantry before (think “put groceries away fast before someone needs you”)
On the right is after Allison intervened! I’ve got small lazy susans for my condiments, stacking shelves for my canned goods so I can see what I have, bins for chips, bins for the boy’s snacks…maybe I can be one of those Moms who makes the fancy lunches for school (who am I kidding, I’ve still got a business to run)…
Ahhhhh, the spice shelves…no longer will I hoard chicken bouillon again because I can now see what I have and what I need to throw away! Check out how neat my baking section is now! Ps, evidently I am a hoarder of icing and things to decorate baked goods with…who knew?!
Oh and check out the drawer with the Saran Wrap, Ziploc Bags, etc…that used to be where I kept all of my recipe books (sorry, I forgot to take a before picture). Now, the Aluminum Foil will no longer fall out of the pantry every time I open the door!
See the drawer with the pot holders and the tiny tray of pens, tape, etc….yup, that was my junk drawer (no before picture as it would have scarred you for life)…
Lastly, check out how organized my kid’s school supplies are now! Here’s hoping it will make homework time easier (doubtful, as this Common Core Math is the DEVIL!!!!)
The biggest question people have asked me is, how much did you spend on the organizing supplies and how many trips to The Container Store did you make…the answer…I spent about $60 between Target and Walmart (never had to go to The Container Store). Allison went with me and showed me the most cost effective solutions (such as all of those little small containers above, like the ones holding the glue, tape and paint….yup, those were $.97 each!!!). This is what I meant when I said Allison isn’t Pinterest….she doesn’t believe in recreating expensive storage solutions from Pinterest. She bargain shops with you and even repurposes items in your house.
I’d love to answer any questions that you have, or feel free to call or e-mail Allison at http://reclaimnc.com and let her know that I sent you
